AIM Smartycam GP HD Rev 2.2 Bullet Camera

The SmartyCam HD GP is a compact solid-state digital video camera that connects to your AiM data logger or ECU (ECU connection requires an ECU Bridge kit, sold separately) for brilliant videos with data overlay. All of the information from the data logger or ECU can be overlaid on screen and recorded as part of the video footage — no syncing necessary later.

The SmartyCam HD GP 2.2 features a small “lipstick” camera (2″ long x 0.95″ diameter) connected to a compact, solid-state recording unit (41/8″ x 31/8″ x 1″) by a 2 meter cable. The lipstick camera is less obtrusive than the full-size AiM SmartyCam HD, making it ideal for use on formula cars and sports racers. Weighs just 365 grams (13 ounces) — only about 85 g (3 oz) more than the standard SmartyCam HD.

The 2.2 revision now uses the same GPS08 module (Part No. MC-257 or MC-258) as AiM dashes and loggers. Unlike previous SmartyCam and SmartyCam GP versions, the 2.2 version does not use the GPS08B module.

This 84° field of view replaces the 120° field of view version.

Configuration

You can configure your overlays in a virtually infinite variety of modes: add your logo and the track map, and choose your graphic objects from a list of pre-determined sets with same layout or even single objects from different sets. Your videos will be truly “yours” in all details, from the data to their graphic layouts.

SmartyCam GP HD overlays all the data you need from different sources. From GPS: track map and vehicle position, as well as speed, lap and split times. Connected directly to your ECU, SmartyCam GP HD gathers together RPM, throttle, engaged gear, acceleration, temperatures, pressures and – in presence of additional sensors – their values. All these info will be overlayed on videos in each single point of the track.Here is just an example among the many available:

Proprietary lenses designed for motorsports

Generic action cameras are designed to record videos in many different situations, such as skiing or surfing, but in motorsports they tend to record misleading videos.Those cameras straighten out the view ahead: when on track, the corners simply disappear. So, when you wish to check your track performance, those videos are useless, because the images are distorted. Being a camera dedicated to motorsports, SmartyCam GP HD features lenses specifically designed to avoid distortion.

High Quality Small-Sized Video Files

HD cameras competition is focused on the highest pixel number.The result is that their video files are far too large, taking too
much memory. SmartyCam GP HD videos have the same qualityas other HD cameras but their files are smaller because the H264 compression system parameters have been
optimized to a perfect balance between video quality and file size.You can choose among three video file quality levels: one-hour recording takes 4GB (high quality), 2GB (normal) or 1,5GB (low). Files are stored on SD cards (not included in the box): with current SD cards reaching 128GB capacity, you can record more than 30 hours of high-quality videos without changing the card.

Designed to withstand extreme on-track working conditions

Frail things have a bad time on track. An on-board camera designed for motorsports must guarantee great resistance against the extreme working conditions typical of track racing and against the most adverse weather, such as: strong and prolonged vibrations, storms, continuous rain, and extreme high and low temperatures. That is why SmartyCam GP HD is made in machinery molded aluminum, just like many competition car parts.

Recording

Recording can also be started/stopped automatically or via keyboard: the camera will start recording when the speed or RPM threshold is exceeded. You simply decide how long after dropping below the selected threshold the video will automatically stop.

Automatic Start & Stop, ON/Off Switch

You are on the starting grid, ready to sprint, your adrenaline reaching the climax: the last thing you can worry about is… switching on the camera. You have other things to worry about.

That is why SmartyCam GP HD can be switched on/off automatically by the logger it is connected to: simply decide after what period of non-activity the camera will have to switch-off. Both operations can also be carried out using the keyboard, if you prefer.

No “wave effect” with the CMOS sensor and improved video qualityPinout:

Engine rumble causes vibrations, which are not a good thing for video recording. Never again will you experience that seasick “wave effect” you get when watching videos recorded by a generic camera, when the car rolls at 7000 RPM. SmartyCam GP HD has been designed for that environment and for those vibrations. “Wave effect” is just a memory.

Now compatible with the GPS08 Module

Differently from the previous model which needed the specific GPS SmartyCam, the new SmartyCam GP HD has been optimized and now can only work with the genericGPS08 Module.
